Land of Headhunters:The unexplored paradise:Nagaland

In case you haven't heard of Nagaland, it is a remote state, located on the far east of the Indian sub-continent. With a population of roughly 1.8 million, 16 major tribes and many other sub tribes.

One look at this place and it will rock you, literally and figuratively.

For the traveller, the wandering soul longing for that thing to experience, Nagaland is the place to be.A place filled with mysticism and charm of the old world trying to find its place in the new world. The rustic charm of the place and the people will leave you in awe. This land of rich culture, traditions, folklore will awaken your mind ,for there is no place with people as unique as the Nagas.

Lets get 3 things straight:
1."Nagas will eat anything that will walk, fly, crawl, swim, bite"
Food habits are a controversial topic so i rest my case with the statement above.Go figure!
"2.Nagas are indians by circumstances and not by choice". Nagas are Nagas first and Indian second, so "we" say.
3."Unlike other people, Nagas came straight from the jungle to civilisation. There was no transition for the people. Hence, the mess it is in now" is my view.

Contrary to popular belief, Nagaland is a peaceful place with people who will warmly welcome you, make you feel at home and open their homes to you, just
as long as you respect us and don't hurt our pride and ego.

Towns of Nagaland situated on hilltops, except Dimapur:

The hills, the valleys, the virgin forests.
The mystical, rustic and old way of living of people in the rural areas will baffle your mind.
The sense of community and helping each other, in this close knit society is a welcome refresh in this day and age.
Mountains run the length and breadth of the state.
The heads of enemies hunted and showcased even till now to the latest shopping malls full of designer outfit.
From the stunning beauty of the dzukou valley to the back-breaking, potholed roads.

Dzukou valley in winter

From being the street fashion capital of India to the dust covered clothes and hairstyles.
From the peaks of Mount Saramati and Mount Japfu to the plains of Dimapur.
To an Angh's(king-ish) house divided right in the middle by the international boundary between India and Myanmmar.
The 101% pure honey, harvested straight from the beehive in the jungle selling for a few hundred rupees equivalent to a couple of
dollars.
There is less traffic chaos, less honking unlike the typical indian roads.
The valley of dzulekie to the villages and towns situated at mountain tops.
The legend of shilloi lake,in the shape of a footprint to the folk tales of people turning into birds, spirits getting lost.
Shilloi Lake

For example, One local legend(Sumi,Lazami)  has it that, one grandfather died and turned into a bird(kasho-papu) and right before he died, he told his son that he will turn into a bird and make a specific sound and only then should the son start planting the crops. And fact of the matter is, even today that bird makes the sound which can be heard..
Now tell me, how many of you can say your great-great-grandfather turned into a bird?!

This little place called Nagaland will satisfy and invigorate your soul. It will awaken your spirit and your senses.
